Aphrodite unrestored4 viewsWe learned a lot about restoration of pieces at the Getty this day. Originally, it was a common trend not to restore a piece once it had been discovered, but over time, this mantra changed and it became acceptable to restore a piece if you had physical evidence (drawings) of what the piece looked like originally. The Getty Villa houses one of the largest antiquities restoration programs in the world. Neat stuff!

Marble work4 viewsThere is so much marble at the Villa it is stunning. Here is a pic of wall containing 6 different marbles within a five foot span. I could not get over the marble work.

Sillouhette Corridor4 viewsThe Getty Villa is relatively small for a musuem and it has very neat corridors through out the main musuem. I think it is the perfect size for a museum, not too overwhelming like say, the Louvre.

Hercules4 viewsThis is the Villa's most prized possession and it is very reminiscent of Michaelangelo's David, although it is half the size of David. Another piece that we saw was the famous "Hope Hygieia." This piece was on loan from the Los Angeles County Musuem of Art and photography was not allowed. Neptune Mosaic4 viewsThis mosaic was located in a fountain in one of the many side gardens. Very eye-opening.

9 viewsThis was my favorite pic I took of this day. My photography places a huge emphasis on "perspective" and this is a really neat one. It focuses directly on the busts facial emotions and it is contrasted well between the darks and lights. It took me over a minute to get the right shot and I had to delete many pics until I finally got the one I wanted, and the subsequently deleted on accident, bit this one was very similar.
